POSITION SUMMARY:   
The Database Developer will play a pivotal role in the creation of a Membership Data Mart for the Academy of Sciences. The ideal candidate must possess solid technical skills and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional project team. This is a 6 months temporary assignment. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Manager of Analytics. 

Key responsibilities include developing database infrastructures and performing all quality assurance as well as documentation of internal business processes and database schema layout. Responsibilities also include gathering use cases and researching to identify relevant source data from point-of-sale system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and implement a Membership Data Mart using Microsoft SQL Server based on use cases and project scope
  • Create data dictionary, entity relationship diagrams, and written documentation on data flow from point of sale databases into data mart
  • Create use case specific documentation that explain which table, view, and/or stored procedure to be accessed in data mart and what are the expected metrics
  • Assist in gathering use cases and researching to define valid data source from point of sale databases
  • Perform quality assurance testing and execute implementation of completed data mart
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A qualified candidate will have a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:

  • Certification with background in database development or education in a related field
  • 3+ years of experience developing in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with development and documentation of technical specs, diagrams, and best practices
  • Experience with Power BI and/or Tessitura Network a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proven track with database development for business intelligence architecture and with data modeling that supports adhoc and standard reporting
  • Demonstrated track record database documentation using entity relationship diagram and business operation flow documentation
  • Demonstrated track record of quality assurance testing for data integrity and for data validity
  • Able to translate business requirements into technical requirements and implement solutions
  • Familiar with how data flows and data collection from business operation processes into database
  • Possess strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills required
  • Self-starter who can prioritize work tasks and meet deadlines
  • Work well as team player and as an independent contributor
  • Collaborative and constructive approach to problem solving

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals. Bilingual (spoken and/or written) in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other non-English language preferred but not necessary.
