POSITION SUMMARY:   
The California Academy of Sciences offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join an energetic Development team. The Leadership Philanthropy Associate is responsible for providing essential administrative support to the Director of Leadership Philanthropy and the Leadership Philanthropy team. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director, Leadership Philanthropy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage administrative projects, including Tessitura donor database entry, donor lists, financial reports, screening data, research, and calendar management.
  • Support Director, Leadership Philanthropy with donor communication, written materials, and impact reports.
  • Track and support donor benefit fulfillment for Friends and Platinum Circle.
  • Support the day-to-day activities related to acquiring, renewing, and upgrading donors, including solicitation mail merges, proposals, reports, and other functions and special projects, as needed.
  • Provide administrative support during meetings, including note taking and meeting minutes.
  • Familiarize and retain knowledge of notable donors and Academy projects in order to provide customized, topical, and error-free communications.
  • Assist at donor and fundraising events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A qualified candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or combination of work experience and education.
  • Prefer two years progressive experience in non-profit Development support or transferable experience from sales/business/customer service sector.
  • Experience in stewardship and relationship cultivation of high net worth donors preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in the Academy and enthusiasm for its mission and programs required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required with a keen ability to work effectively in communicating with high-end donors, volunteers, and other departments.
  • Highly attentive to detail, strong analytical and mathematical skills, proactive and solution-oriented approach to challenges, and ability to compose error-free correspondence required.
  • Strong work ethic, good judgment, excellent organizational and time management skills, flexibility, sense of humor, and able to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Friendly, outgoing, able to think on your feet and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated capacity navigating complex, multi-layered organizations a plus.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly is needed.
    • Microsoft Office and G-Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
    • Demonstrated database experience in Tessitura is preferred.
    • Knowledge of search engines and research tools.
    • Basic design experience in Adobe desired.
  • Ability to work collegially in a teamwork environment but also independently in an effective and productive manner.
  • Interest in and working knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising.
  • Strong commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Excellent sense of diplomacy and tact; able to maintain confidentiality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals. Bilingual (spoken and/or written) in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other non-English language preferred.
